My little buddy. Oreo Santiago Pye, as he was officially named, or Fatty/Franky/Putty/Little Buddy as he is more affectionately called. The summer before sixth grade, my family was lucky enough to find this little guy and incorporate him into our family. My brother had a friend who's chihuahua had a litter of puppies, all of them different, none of them quite like their mother. They couldn't even really guess what type of dog the father was. One of the dogs was white and black and the family called him Oreo (surprise surprise) and my brother begged my mom to let us take the little furball home, after all he "looked just like Harold" (my poor other little baby). My parents agreed (one of the last things they'd ever agree on) and so Oreo came to live with us.

From day one he was full of piss and vinegar, unlike any dog we had ever seen. Half chihuahua, he was pretty crazy. Although Harold wasn't that old, he wasn't used to having a crazy pup in the house, and used to get annoyed when Oreo would play bite him and then run and hide under the ottoman where Harold couldn't reach him. It was a little game. That is, until the day he got too big and couldn't fit under there.

I've never met a dog quite as bizarre and unique as little fatty. He loved bananas, cantalope and strawberries. He loved to be chased around the yard, and hated to be alone, unless he was mad and he'd go hide behind his chair. He loved Harold unconditionally, and in Harold's elder years, he even sort of looked after him. Poor little putty, he was very depressed when Harold didn't come back from the vet's. He secretly loved to cuddle, his favorite cuddle buddies included a squirtle pillow, a little ducky, and most recently a pillow with monkeys, not to mention his bean bag chair.

Unfortunately, Oreo got old fast, and his little kidney's just couldn't support him anymore. He knew he was sick, but still he was happy, excited to great his momma at the door and ready to give a kiss on command. Yet again, my heart aches, and my little buddy will be sorely missed.

Always happy, my two little pals. (left, Oreo 1994-2007) and right, Harold (1988?-2006).
